Julian Harber

Driver Class: 3A

I learnt to drive in my Sister-in-Law’s 850cc mini during the summer of 1967 whilst staying with them in Walton-on-Thames where they lived then and the love affair with the mini was born. Mini’s were still rather expensive for a school boy so I had an A35 and it took another year to save for the first mini. I have followed motorsport since those days, build many tuned engines over the years but it took until 2014 to compete in the mini I had been building in my garage for 3years. It was my pal Charlie Miller and Tim Harber (Historic Saloon racer) who dragged me off to various circuits and gave me the encouragement to have a go at 64 years of age. The first ever competitive event was Prescott and I was smitten, since then have been north to Harewood, South to Werrington, West to Llys-y-Fran, East to Goodwood and twice at St Goueno France.

I have been so lucky to have found quality parts suppliers who have made the mini so reliable but also have shared their specialist knowledge. Engine/Transmission parts from MED Race Technologies, Suspension components from KAD, Carbon Fibre panels by Arc Angels, Fabrication support from Appollo Engineering, ROP’s and Alloy welding by Jim at Cotsweld Race Cars and Curtis of AST Suspension who made the bespoke Dampers for me.
